AIRPLANES AND BLAZERS 2
If you were there last year, you don't need an introduction; you already know that Airplanes and Blazers is the party of the year. This year will be no exception. [If for some reason you got lost in the slot machines, here's what you missed: http://vimeo.com/27717159. It pains me to have to show you this, but lessons must be learned, and I really can't stand to see you miss out on this carousing revelry two years in a row. If you missed your chance last year to go all-in with us, this year is your chance to double-down. I'll wait while you open your calendar: Monday, February 20th @ 10pm, at a yet-to-be disclosed location. You're welcome.]
Chances are, though, that you were there among the masses of merrymakers, so you already know that there is no shindig quite like Airplanes and Blazers. It's the only party at WPPI by photographers, for photographers. And that's why we do it: for you, for us! This is our chance to be the party instead of shooting it! (Rest assured; there will be no networking tents or free koozies. Nor will there be sponsors jumping on stage to stop the music. We handle all that outside the party. But rest assured, everyone leaves knowing who exactly just rocked their world!) There are no profits made--we're not trying to make a buck, just memories!
So how do we do it? Well, eery year, we gather an arsenal of some of the raddest sponsors and contributors who make this whole thing happen. Who wouldn't want to have their name associated with it?! The more money we raise, the bigger the party. The more noise we make, the better the crowd. Every year, everyone from major corporations to mom-and-pop outfits jump aboard.
But really, it's no one's party, because it's everyone's; if you'll be on the dance floor, then the party is yours. That's why we do it--for the hell of it, for the fun of it, because we can, because it's always the highlight of the year at WPPI.
We don't make a buck off this party, and frankly we considered not doing it this year on account of the huge financial leverage it takes to produce Airplanes and Blazers. But the buzz has already started and, truth be told, once all the planning is done, we'll be the first on the dance floor. So we're doubling down this year.
This year will assuredly be among the raddest, but we really can't do it without your contributions. This amazing community of photographers always comes thru for this party, so thanks in advance to everyone who is going to make this the best one yet!
ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE
AIRHORNS & LASERS is a production collective--man, we love a collective!--that consists of award winning event producers, marketing magicians, designers capable of manifesting multi-dimensional concepts out of thin air, and, of course, seasoned photographers. (Seasoned in the tasty or yummy sense, not the old and crusty sense.) You might also know us as the Flashdance!
We have all been throwing parties, executing marketing initiatives, and producing advertising campaigns from concept to wrap for the biggest corporations in the world since the late 90's. Somewhere along the line we fell in love with the warm community in the wedding world and we put some of our marketing projects on the back burner...
ABOUT THE NAME, AIRHORNS AND LASERS
One day after working closely together for waaaaay too many hours a particularly difficult wedding in new york we all went out together with friends to relax & celebrate. After dinner on the freezing car ride to brooklyn we were all a bit slap happy from the long hours of working together and lack of sleep. We were listening to hot 97 (nyc's top 40 hip hop radio station) and commenting on how funny all of the laser and airhorn sound effects were and for some reason we all began saying "airhorns" and "lasers" at the end of each sentence as vocalized exclamation points. Like: "Hey, look that van is stuck in a pot hole! LASERS!" or "You want another beer? AIRHORNS!" As the night wore on, we were only saying those two words over and over and laughing hysterically! This was probably as annoying to our friends as it is on hot 97 when you just want to hear the damn song!
The next morning we had a big company meeting that outlined our strategy for the coming year and one of the things on the agenda was a series of industry events that were more like the old hip hop club nights that we used to throw than any of the weddings we all work on. Of course the name of the events had to be none other than AIRHORNS & LASERS.
